Learn how to make your own Octo-Purse with this digital crochet PATTERN. The Octo-purse pattern comes with a 50-page PDF document in full color with detailed instructions and tons of large, clear photos -- including helpful graphics and diagrams. You’ll also find a handy list of all the materials needed to make the purse.
The pattern contains a hyperlink to a private video tutorial on how to make the suckers. There is NOT a video tutorial for making the entire purse. Just the suckers.
There are two versions contained within this pattern: the standard Octo-Purse with maximum suckers and a single crochet base bag. The "Lite" version of the pattern has half the amount of suckers and a double crochet base bag. There are also two different strap length options for EACH version of the purse.
I've included instructions for attaching safety eyes as well as a version of the head that does NOT have gaps for safety eyes (so you can embroider, needle felt or add buttons as you please). There are instructions for making a purse liner as well as how to add either a magnetic snap closure OR a drawstring closure.
The Octo-Purse pattern has been tested by a team of skilled crochet artists who helped me make it as perfect as possible. Check out my Instagram or Tiktok @TopstitchesCrochet for examples of their fabulous pattern tester results!

To make the Octo-Purse, you’ll need the following materials:
• Worsted weight yarn (approx 800 yds of the main color and 250 yds of the accent color).
100% acrylic yarn or an acrylic blend is recommended.
Suggested yarn brands: Premier Basix Worsted, Red Heart Super Saver, or Lion Brand Heartland.
• Size H/5.00mm crochet hook or whatever is needed to achieve the correct gauge.
(Gauge swatch and info is in the pattern).
• Tapestry needle
• Locking stitch markers and/or pins
• Polyester Stuffing
• Optional: two 25mm safety eyes (Note: although the safety eyes are listed as “optional”, if you don’t use these, you’ll need to make eyes some other way. This pattern does not include any other instructions for eyes besides safety eyes, but there is an option to make the head without the gaps for the safety eyes in case you want to do something else like needle felt or crochet)
• Options for purse closure (Pick one of these options):
1. Toggle or button (plus a hand sewing needle & thread to match the purse)
2. Drawstring (either crochet a cord using yarn, or use faux leather/other material; a toggle cord lock is also great to use and can be found on Etsy or Amazon)
3. Magnetic snap closure ½” (plus a hand sewing needle & thread to match the purse)
Pattern Skill Level: Intermediate to advanced. Beginners are not recommended for this project due to the complexity of making the suckers, the amount of sewing and other crochet techniques (such as special stitches and crocheting different pieces together).
Size Info: Standard & Lite Octo-Purse are both the same size as far as the bag is concerned. Both are 11.5” Long with a 7” opening. The widest part of the bag is 8”. The Long Strap option is 35” long from the top of the tentacle to the bottom of the purse. The Short strap option is 31” long.
